Surviving on heavy, tasteless bread made from wheat stolen from the Druids by the undead whom they call the "shadow people," their captors who live up in the ruined castle of the Iceni warrior queen, Boudicca. Add to the mix a compassionate, driven geek from Chicago teamed up with a cute, perky, and very courageous travel agent from Edinburgh who are sent back, back in time to rescue seven "lost" American children. You will love the way the geek from the future tied together these unrelated children from across the U.S. to support his theory of why they are missing. Only a dedicated geek would come up with such a wacky idea, according to his detractors. The twists and turns of this story run parallel to the twists and turns of the miles of gloomy, dark and dank tunnels that might just become a new permanent home to the young Druid girl from the mine cave-in and the two very surprised newcomers from the future. If you suffer from claustrophobia, better give this story a pass! Can the enormous obstacles involved in a rescue plan, not only of the children stolen from the present (that is a fascinating story in itself thanks to Angus the wizard) but the entire tribe, be carried out without being torn asunder by the disgusting undead? Can the Druids who live in the shadow of the "haunted" castle they have never dared enter, become a successful part of the rescue plan or will they too be torn limb from limb from the mindless but extremely strong undead? Speaking of which, you will gasp and grab your own tongue when you learn how the shadow people came to be soulless, mindless, and tongueless in their own distant land. You will cheer on the two romances that bloom in the gloom, and hope for a successful outcome. Fascinating Scottish and Welsh history makes this a read that will hold you captive, but fortunately not by the gray and scaly-skinned shadow people who scare easily, and attack before thinking...because their brains atrophied, long ago. Keep the lights on as you read if the dark scares you. This darkness surely will. Beware the "sad" crabs!
